For Your Eyes Only

When substitute teacher Mr. Moffat gets everyone in class to start keeping journals, the lives of two students begin to change. Lucy pours out her heart to Mr. Moffat in funny, personal entries marked "FYEO--For YOUR Eyes Only!" Meanwhile Andy, the class troublemaker, only draws exploding fighter planes and caricatures of his classmates. Lucy writes about everything, from the major banes of her existence (her mother and Andy), to how she wants to write poems like those Mr. Moffat puts on the blackboard. Finally, Andy, too, begins to write and finds the courage, with Lucy’s help, to tell the truth about the trouble at home.

Through the journal entries of Lucy and Andy (including Andy’s irreverent drawings), Joanne Rocklin creates two funny, affecting young characters while delivering a potent tribute to the power of the written word and a teacher who cares.
